Business Unit Manager - Data Engineering & Cloud Solutions

A specialised technology consulting firm is seeking a Business Unit Manager to lead and expand its Data Engineering and Cloud practice. This role combines business development, client management, and technical leadership, requiring expertise in Cloud, AI, Kubernetes, and DevOps. The ideal candidate will drive growth, develop key client relationships, and lead a team of engineers and consultants. This opportunity is ideal for a Senior Data Engineer, Cloud Architect, or AI Engineer with a consulting background looking to transition into a leadership role and scale a high-impact practice.

Key Responsibilities:

• Bring in new business by leveraging existing relationships or building new connections within the industry.
• Develop and execute a strategy to acquire at least 1-2 clients within the first 6 months.
• Build a pipeline of new opportunities through networking, sales strategies, and leveraging company resources.
• Lead, manage, and grow a team of engineers, architects, and consultants.
• Oversee the delivery of Data Engineering and Cloud solutions to clients, ensuring high-quality, on-time project completion.
• Develop and implement strategies for scaling the Data Engineering practice and achieving revenue targets.
• Leverage your hands-on experience with Data Engineering, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and modern data architectures to provide guidance and mentorship to the technical team.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies, ensuring the team remains at the cutting edge of cloud and data engineering solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer and deep understanding of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong experience with data pipelines, data architecture, cloud-native architecture, and modern data engineering practices.
• Experience in a leadership, management, or senior consultant role.
• Proven ability to develop and implement successful business development strategies, with experience in bringing clients into a consulting environment.
• A strong network of industry connections and the ability to bring in new business within the first few months of joining.
• Experience in a consulting firm environment, ideally at the Senior Consultant, Manager, BUM, or Principal level, with a track record of leading complex data engineering or cloud projects.
• Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and capable of taking initiative.
• Fluency in both German and English
